With the qualifying rounds and
finals over that big day in September is here again
The league team has once again led the way and will play in the
big one!!
Firstly we must acknowledge the efforts of the Reserves and Colts
teams this year.
Although there were not a lot of wins, there was certainly a lot
of commitment from the players, coaches and support crews.
The Ressies guys stuck it out all year and at times played some
very good footy, a bit more training would have seen them go much
further.
To Brett, Tiny and Rob they did a great job week in and week out
getting a team together and making the most of it.
The Colts were a very young bunch at the start of the season being
mostly under 16s players
These young guys are to be commended as their light bodies were
no match for the more experienced teams.
As the weeks went by and the side built up with more Colts age
players the team improved and they played some good footy.
We certainly have some good young players associated with the
Colts, we need them to stay with us and build their own team.
“Next year boys when your mate says; come play at my club;
you say no way and bring your mate to Towns”
Several young guys played League footy this year, Kim Farrell,
Chervaan Scott, Josh Hamilton, Levi Thorne, Wade McEwan, and Garnet
Willock.
Rory did a great job with the young guys and although it can be
very frustrating most of the time, the reward of developing young
players is well worth it.
The League team has done a terrific job during the year and every
player that has played has contributed to the team’s success.
Only 22 can play this Sunday but every player who played league
during the qualifying rounds is apart of us being in the grand
final.
We had a lot injuries and key players unavailable during the qualifying
rounds but still managed to win all but one game.
At times we had as many as eight key players out at one time,
but the guys still dug deep and came out on top .
In the fight for a top 2 spot with Brigades and Railways for most
of the season critical wins against Railways and Mullewa put us
in top spot.
This was without key players the calibre of:
Dale Baynes, Calib Mourish, Robert Colley, Shaun Tunbridge, Brad
Carlyon, Liam Carlyon, Rhys Cooyou, Drew Carlyon, Rick Marianna,
Kane O’Malley
The guys who came into the team on these occasions certainly did
their bit and filled their roll on the day
Dale Baynes and Robbie Davison have done a terrific job assisting
all year and in particular in recent weeks whilst I was over seas
on holiday.
We are now at full strength for the big day and the efforts of
Dale and Robbie in recent weeks has set the team up to peak for
the big game.
As a coach this is the hardest week of the football year because
you can only play 22 players, there is usually around 25 guys
who deserve a spot.
This year is no exception and unfortunately some guys will miss
out and be very disappointed as they have made a huge contribution
during the season.
With their disappointment they need to reflect on the contribution
that they have made and the importance of their individual efforts.
Congratulations to all the players who will be selected for the
grand final, the job is not done yet and we all need to remain
focused.
The job will only be done if we are in front on the scoreboard
after the final siren, what has happened in past weeks is in the
past Sunday is a new ball game.
My personal thanks and on behalf of the player groups I must sincerely
thank all those who have helped support the teams this year.
Runners, Water Boys, Managers and in particular our trainer group;
Leanne, Steve, Joe, Phil and Frank Polese, these people work tirelessly
week in and week out.
All the club volunteers do a great job to ensure we have a football
club; there would be no player groups with out you so we appreciate
you all greatly.
To our supporters you are great week in and week out, do not hold
back on Sunday bring out your Red and White along with your voice
and cheers to urge the boys on.
See you all at the footy on Sunday, Go the Bulldogs
