TOWNS
KNOCKOUT RAILWAYS & GO INTO GRANDFINAL FOR NIGHT
SERIES Towns12-6 to Railways 5.5
COACH'S
COLUMN
The boys have recorded good wins in both games against Brigades
and Railways and this should see us play in Grand Final
of the night series.
The Railways game was a good contest with both teams
having plenty of players to pick from. Both teams rotated
players regularly and with Towns having 30 players it
was not easy at times rotating players on and off the
bench. It is great to see the numbers though and the
players were given as much game time as possible.
Towns got off to a good start with the breeze against
Railways kicking 3-3 to 0-2 in the first quarter. Railways
bounced back in the second term kicking 4 goals to Towns
one and it was game on at half time. During the second
quarter Railways out ran and out skilled Towns but the
boys were still able to hold up and stay in the game.
The Towns boys regrouped at three quarter time and the
third quarter was very good indeed kicking 4 goals to
Railways 1 and setting up a winning margin. During the
third quarter the boys ran hard and were committed to
gaining possession of the ball and not allowing Railways
any freedom at all.
The final quarter saw Towns with a 4 goal lead and Railway
kicking with the breeze and a challenge in front of
the Towns boys to maintain the pressure. Once again
in the last quarter Towns outscored Railways 3 goals
to one point, Final scores being Towns12-6 to Railways
5.5
This sets us up to play in the Grand Final on April
4th. The boys have a bit of a break and can recover
from two games in four days in pre-season which is a
tough ask.
Overall a really good effort by all the players, the
young guys were good when they were on and this all
looks good for our Colts. A number of the young guys
are consistently at pre-season training which is great.
They need to keep this up and bring their mates along.
It is hard to rotate so many players but is good to
see them all have a hit out after putting in the training
efforts.
Pre-season gets back to normal for a couple of weeks
now and I know the coach and players are really looking
forward to that. All the running, boxing, skipping and,
exercises and use of the footballs every now and then
“great stuff”.
