What a fantastic start to the season, a win against Rovers –
the first for a very long time.
On a beautiful clear and sunny day Zac Middleton and Scott McLeish
took the helm for their first game as U16s coaches. I think
they were as keen to get started as the players.
Our squad of 20 certainly didn’t waste any time with getting
down to business. The first goal was scored about 3 minutes
into the quarter and we just kept a steady attack on the goals
for all four quarters. The final score – 10 goals 6 behinds
66points to 5 goals 3 behinds 33 points.
The game was fairly evenly matched for the first three quarters
but our Bulldogs dug deep in the last quarter and kept Rovers
scoreless to come away with the victory.
This was Sadiq ( the goal sneak) Miska’s 50th game for
the club – so congratulations and well done for getting
on the score sheet.
It was also great to see out three new recruits for this season
getting onto the score sheet, so welcome to Wayne Bonney (Wayne
did play for us in his early junior years so it is great to
have him back) Brandon Collard and Shaquille Gregory –
all these players have fitted into the squad really well.
It was also Declan Parsons first goal for the club – well
done mate – who says a full back can’t kick. !!!!!!
I asked one of the spectators to select the best on ground this
week. I did feel a bit sorry for them by the end of the game
because to be quite honest there were 20 players out there giving
it their best shot and really that is all we can ask for. Well
done to all.
Our next game is at home against Railways Blue at 11am on 09.05.09.
Congratulations Sadiq Miska - 50th Junior game 02.03.09.

On Saturday morning, Towns played Northampton at Wonthella in what
was most of the boys 1st game with the U14’s. We have
only about 6 players from last years side, with the rest being last
years U12’s moving up. As far as I was concerned, our
boys played a terrific game. We didn’t win, but it was
a good first experience for the boys in the “senior version”
of the Juniors! I had the parents look out for outstanding players,
and at the end of the game asked them to tell me who they thought
was best on ground. We had 5 players who in particular stood
out. These were: DANIEL BARNARD, DYLAN WHITBY-TAYLOR,
SHARZAH KELLY, TYSON McEWAN AND QUANIE RYDER. A huge mention
must go to Daniel for an excellent game, and in particular, Tyson,
who kicked 5 goals! WOW what an effort. We also
had a full team which was wonderful, and at last a decent show of
supporters. Thank you to all that came and cheered us on. Please
keep it up throughout the season.
Most people by now should know about the “E” point!
This is a system that was introduced last year to the U16’s
and trialed with the 14’s. This point is awarded
by both field umpires to the Club whose GOOD BEHAVIOUR does not go
unnoticed. The behavior of both teams, supporters, coaches,
managers and basically anyone at footy on the day is checked for the
E point. If there are no Red or Yellow cards handed out, no
bad behavior, good team spirit etc., an E point may be awarded to
one or both sides. Today, Northampton handed out a yellow card,
which meant they could not receive the point. Having said
that, Towns had fantastic behavior both on and off field, and we won
the “E” point. This is really special as the more
points we collect, the better our chances are at the end of season
ladder. It could make or break our chances at Finals!
So boys, and families, keep up the great behavior, because it didn’t
go UNNOTICED! Final score T 9-4 vs NH 12-13.
Thank you kids for being so polite and thank you Alex for “upping
the anti” on the coaching skills! Special mention
to Ali and Ian. Thank you for all your help with the nervous
U14’s Team Manager (that would be me!) . We will
have a great team this year.
