UNDER 16's RD 10 St Pats v Towns - 24.07.10

At last we are back. The boys have been hanging out for the season to recommence after the holiday break.
This week's game was against St Pats who were just above us on the ladder on points but we had a better percentage so there was a bit to play for. The last time we played them, they won by the narrowest of margins – 1 point, but we were very low on numbers that day.
It was looking good for a tough contest. The weather wanted to play its part also. The wind although not particularly strong was very
swirly out in the centre and made conditions very tricky for the first half. The first quarter was a point's fest, by the end of it Towns had 5 points and St Pats had managed to kick 2. As always when these two teams meet it was not the prettiest game due
to the attack on the ball and the commitment from the players.
By half time St Pats had taken the lead scoring 2 goals 4 to Towns 2 behinds. The half time break saw the boys regroup and focus on the task at hand. The third quarter spark came from Sadiq who snapped a gaol over his shoulder to see us finally get a major
score. The boys worked hard for the quarter scoring 3 gaols 5 behinds to see us 5 points behind at the last change.
The last quarter was poised for a close finish; our boys had their work cut out for them as they were kicking into the wind in the final term. William Thorne stepped up to kick 3 fantastic goals along and with Graeme Adams ,Quanie Ryder who was playing up from the
14s, Wayne Bonney who each kicked one then Sadiq bagged himself two to see us win by 7 points. Final score St Pats 8 goals 7 behinds 55 points. Towns 8 goals 14 behinds 62points.
The boys worked hard especially in the second half to secure the win which will now put us in equal second spot with St Pats but we will have the better percentage. Thanks to Barton Parsons and Quanie Ryder for playing up from the 14s, both lads did themselves proud.
It really was a terrific team effort with all players contributing to the win. The little things made all the difference in the end, the second efforts, sticking to your player and team work was what saw you come away with the points.
Well done to all. Next week we play the team at the top of the ladder, Rover, so get ready for another hard close encounter.
